On June 24th, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela — the strongest felt in over a century. A 7.2 magnitude foreshock hit just west of the capital Caracas, followed less than a minute later by an even more devastating 7.5 magnitude main event. Buildings collapsed across Caracas and throughout the states of Aragua, Carabobo, Falcón, La Guaira, and Miranda.

Venezuela was already struggling with chronic shortages of medicine, power outages, and underfunded hospitals before the earthquakes hit. Now those same hospitals are operating beyond capacity, thousands of families lack access to safe water, and over 432 schools in Caracas alone have been damaged. The road to recovery will be long — and the need for outside help is urgent.
How we chose these organizations
We evaluated dozens of organizations responding to the Venezuela earthquakes and selected only those that met four criteria. We are not affiliated with any of them.

UNICEF USA
UNICEF estimates 680,000 children need immediate humanitarian assistance. Local UNICEF teams were on the ground within hours of the earthquakes, and a first air shipment of 20 metric tons of medical supplies, water purification equipment, and emergency tents arrived from their regional warehouse in Panama on June 27th. Catholic Relief Services
CRS is working through Cáritas Venezuela and the local Church to rapidly deliver emergency shelter, food, clean water, medical care, and other critical aid to people affected by the earthquakes. Catholic parishes have opened their doors to displaced families and are providing emergency assistance on the front lines.

Samaritan's Purse has airlifted nearly 200,000 pounds of relief materials to Venezuela, including an Emergency Field Hospital now operating in hard-hit La Guaira. The hospital is equipped with two operating rooms, a critical care unit, pharmacy, and laboratory, capable of treating more than 100 people each day. They have also delivered emergency shelter materials, community water systems, solar lights, and blankets to families who have lost everything.
